Sakhalin Island

A. Lamb Associates have recently been working closely with Van Oord on two major projects in Russia on the Sakhalin Island.

Van Oord were awarded two major projects by the Main Contractor for the Sakhalin I Project, Phase I Development, EPC/2. This includes the feeding grounds of the remaining known pairs of Western Grey Whale, of which only around 100 survive.

The first of the two projects was the installation and post-trenching of the Tatar Strait Crossing - 20 kilometres of welded steel oil pipeline, 24" in diameter, which links Sakhalin Island with the Russian Federation and allows oil to be pumped first to the De-Kastri Storage and Loading Terminal and then to export. The second project concerns the Chayvo Offshore Pipelines, for which Van Oord Offshore is providing assistance at the landfall, subsea pipeline trench dredging and backfilling, as well as scour protection around the base of Orlan Platform.

Tatar Strait Crossing
Van Oord Offshore, in conjunction with their shallow-water pipelay partner, are to install the Tatar Strait Crossing, approximately 20 kilometres of 24" diameter welded steel pipeline with a concrete weight coating.

Chayvo Offshore Pipelines
Van Oord Offshore will provide assistance to the offshore pipelay contractor and place scour protection around the base of the newly installed Orlan Offshore Platform.
