A. Lamb Associates Ltd supported this project through the key commercial phase. The Dolphin project entails the production and processing of natural gas from Qatar's North Field, and transportation of the dry gas by pipeline to the UAE. For this purpose, two 80km sea lines to an onshore processing plant in Ras Laffan (Qatar) and a 370km export line from this plant to Taweelah (UAE) need to be constructed. The offshore pipelines will be installed by Saipem from Italy. For the shore approach of the Ras Laffan pipelines, Van Oord is subcontracted to excavate a 1500m trench as well as the pull to shore of the two 36 inch sea lines and one 48 inch export pipeline using two linear winches. At Taweelah, Van Oord is subcontracted to excavate a 5100m trench as well as the pull to shore of the 48 inch export pipeline. Both trenches will be excavated using cutter suction and backhoe dredgers.
Upon completion of the pipeline installation, the trenches will be backfilled using previously excavated material and engineered backfill material. When finished in 2007, 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day will initially be transported through the pipeline. The pipeline's design capacity allows for throughput to eventually rise to 3.2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. A. Lamb Associates -
